According to Tibetan beliefs, the Buddha of the next era will find enlightenment under the flower canopy of a champaca tree. In our version of the legend, before transcending, the red flowers turn into crystals that burn like resin. Both the enlightened and the tree disappear into the ruby smoke, becoming one with the velvet night.
