In 2003 I traveled with my grandfather to those lands to buy wood from Gaïac, which they call Guayacán there. They told us a legend so beautiful that it deserved to be kept in my memory forever. It is the story of a very beautiful young woman who day after day passed by the side of a road where there was a Guayacán tree, one of those that grow in those lands, with a very leafy crown and beautiful blue flowers that gave off a confusing aroma. with orange blossom and lavender. It was so beautiful that it seemed to have been molded by the sun god himself, Ñamandu. The girl was in love with a boy from her town and her love was unrequited. Every day that she passed in front of the tree, she would stop in front of it, put her arms around it, and stay there for a few seconds sighing for her love. One of those days, her desire for that tree to be hers, her beloved, was so great that she dug her nails into the bark from the force of her unfortunate embrace. She gushed resin from the wounded trunk and mixed with the tears of her desolate love. The next day she quickened her pace to reach her beloved Guayacáero in her place, there was a beautiful young man with blue eyes with his naked torso. Seeing her, he smiled and hugged her. Surprised, she hugged him back. The young man smelled of orange blossom and a pleasant resinous wood. When his hands slid down the boy's back, his fingers felt the scratches he had left on the trunk of his beloved Guayacán. That same year Gaïac came into the world.
