Certo by Clandestine Laboratories is a fragrance for women and men. The nose behind this fragrance is Mark Sage. Certo (“cherto”) means confident and sure in Italian and that’s what’s happening here. Smooth and self-assured, its warm, deep presence fills a room with its relaxed voice without being attention-seeking or obnoxious. The composition features a rounded woody-peppery, incense and mace-infused heart contrasting with the mesmerizing tang of sugandh mantri (rarely used in Western perfumery), freshened with rosewood and carnation, spiced with green peppercorns and accented by subtle rose, jasmine, ylang ylang and cyclamen aspects. It dries down to a complex base of smooth leather, oakmoss, patchouli, myrrh, black spruce absolute, orris, Tonkin musk (reconstruction) and vanilla. The diffusion is rich and warm, never overbearing, and the drydown lasts for ages, especially on cloth.
