"Jean-Michel Duriez is passionate about the woody notes that are already found in several fragrances of the House. Oud Wood is native to several Southeast Asian countries. It is part of the botanical species Aquilaria . It is found in many countries including the main, Laos, as well as in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines. Attacked by a fungus and bacteria inoculated by insect colonies, it defends itself by producing a resin called Agar Oud with ancestral medicinal properties in Southeast Asia. It has been exported to all countries of the Middle East for its warm, animal, leathery and very sensual smell. There, many perfumes use this rare and overpriced extract. Traditionally, the shavings of the tree are burned during religious Ramadan celebrations or to perfume clothes and houses. But the over-exploited species is now threatened. The overdose of musks brings a rounding to the Oud chord; in this perfume, if they are olfactively discrete, their contribution is capital. Their roundness calms the animality of the Oud.
