From 1600 to 1800 world maritime trade was monopolized by the Netherlands. In 1602 the Dutch East India Company (VereenigdeOostindischeCompagnie called VOC) was founded. It operated uninterruptedly for 200 years, being the first international private corporation in the world. It traded and transported spices, wood, foods and exotic goods from India, Indonesia, Africa, Iran, China and Japan. His forte were spices: pepper, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla and cardamom. Also cocoa, coconut, sandalwood, storax, benzoin, opoponax, elemi. In addition to cotton, silk, porcelain, silver, gold and essential oils. He broke the commercial monopolies of Spain, Portugal, France and Venice on these goods, managing to stabilize prices and ensuring continued access of these goods to merchants throughout Europe.
