The fragrance has a German name Freigeist (freethinker) and unusual composition for editions for men. Perfumers of the fragrance are Sophie Labbe and Alienor Massenet of International Flavors and Fragrances, who created an unusual union of fresh fougere aromas for a man with free spirit. The composition incorporates gin notes in a top, jasmine in a heart and leather and mahogany in a base. Assortment of Wolfgang Joop Freigeist includes 50 and 90ml edt, 90ml after shave, 200ml body and hair bath and 75ml deo stick. As for the name of the perfume, Joop says that when he finally tried the composition, he thought: 'What a difficult word for a light fragrance'. Advertising campaign is typical for photographs of men and women of all ages, shapes and sizes, as well as for a watercolor painting on its outer carton. Joop wants to break all conventions with this and to suggest beauty in variety. The petrol blue flacon shaped just like its orange antecedent was created by Lutz Herrmann.
